How investing works in Chile
Shares in Chile trade on the Bolsa de Comercio de Santiago. To buy them you need a broker that is able to trade on that exchange, and you pay in CLP.
The regulator is the Comisión para el Mercado Financiero (CMF). It licenses brokers and publishes the rules for listed companies, so checking that a broker is registered with it is the first step.
Before you invest, read the rules for foreign investors in Chile: some markets limit who may buy, and some restrict how money leaves the country. Our guide on foreign investor rules covers what to check.
Prices are quoted in CLP. If you live in another currency, a move in the exchange rate can change your return even when the share price does not move. See currency risk for foreign stocks.
